Begin your exploration of Germany with an orientation tour of Frankfurt, seeing the Romerberg Square, the 14th century cathedral and the house where Goethe was born. Continue to Heidelberg, the city of the ‘Student Prince’, set on the banks of the River Neckar. Sightseeing includes the view over the old quarter of the city from the heights of the famous castle fortress. Now on to Rothenburg-ob-der Tauber, the most well-preserved town on the Romantic Road. Plunge back into the 16th Century as you walk through narrow cobbled streets lined with high-gabled houses to the market square dominated by its magnificent Renaissance town hall. In the evening, enjoy a delicious Highlight Dinner of local cuisine. (BB,HD)

Join a local guide to see the splendors of the city. From the Frauenkirche, which has risen again from the destruction of WWII, walk past 'The Procession of the Dukes', a mosaic of colossal proportions on the Royal Palace façade. See the cathedral, Semper Opera House and baroque Zwinger Palace, before departing for the German capital, Berlin. You might like to try some traditional Berliner cuisine tonight? (BB)

Day 8 Berlin
A guided sightseeing tour takes you along the Unter den Linden past the Humboldt University and Opera. Stop on Museum Island before passing the Brandenburg Gate, symbol of the reunification. See the glass-domed Reichstag building and drive through the Tiergarten. Spend the afternoon at leisure or take an optional excursion to Potsdam, site of the post war meetings which resulted in the division of the city? This evening perhaps round off the trip by sampling Berlin's fabled nightlife? (BB)

OBERAMMERGAU ACCOMMODATION & SEATING PLAN

Premium Tours: The Oberammergau organisers offer five categories of hotel accommodation. These range from the adequate HC5 category, right up to HC1, which are the best hotels available. All Insight Premium Tours will stay in HC1 Oberammergau hotels - now you can’t get better than that!

In addition, HC1 hotels automatically include Category 1A seating for the Passion Play - the best seats in the house!

HC1 hotels are described by the organisers as; luxuriously furnished, spacious rooms of the highest standard, with shower or bath/WC and a corner seating unit. They are equipped with a safe, minibar (or a range of drinks), colour TV, radio, direct dial telephone, internet access, hair-dryer, cosmetic articles and bathrobe.

European Essentials Tours: The Oberammergau organisers offer a further four categories of Guesthouses and Inns, ranging from the modestly furnished GC4 rooms up to the best Inns and Guesthouses on offer - GC1 category. All Insight European Essentials Tours attending Oberammergau will stay in the best GC1 Inns and Guesthouses.

These packages include Category 2 seats for the Passion Play. GC1 Inns and Guesthouses are described by the organisers as large, comfortable rooms (some of them apartments), for discerning guests with shower or bath/WC and a corner seating unit.

They are equipped with a minibar (or a range of drinks), colour TV, radio, direct dial telephone, internet access, hair-dryer and cosmetic articles.


We encourage all persons interested in group tours to contact us as soon as possible to register for our Priority Interest List. Space will be confirmed and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. All of our packages will include 2 nights stay in the Oberammergau area. We will also have a limited number of 1 night packages available for customized itineraries only.

HOTELS: There is an excellent selection of modern hotels in all the cities on this tour.

MEALS ON TOUR: As specified in each itinerary. Meals are based on the hotel's or restaurant's buffet or set menu. In general, beverages are not included, unless specifically stated.

TRANSFERS: Transfers will dependent on the tour you choose. In general, if you buy the Land and Air package then return transfers between the airport and hotel are included. If you buy land only then you are responsible for your own transfers or they can be purchased separately.

SIGHTSEEING: With only 40 guests on our tours. In a smaller group, you'll be closer to your local guide for a more in-depth experience, you'll spend less time waiting to get into sights and it will be faster checking into hotels with your luggage arriving quicker to your room.

MOTORCOACH Luxury coaches have been specially reconfigured with fewer seats, you'll relax in style whilst enjoying up to twice as much legroom then on a standard touring coach - on EVERY departure with NO EXTRA SURCHARGE to pay. Coaches are safe and comfortable and our drivers are highly experienced professionals. To give each passenger an equal opportunity, we rotate seats daily. For the comfort and health of all our passengers, we enforce a non-smoking policy. We do, however, provide regular rest stops so that you can stretch your legs, and allow passengers a smoke.

LUGGAGE: All tour packages allow one piece of luggage per person and one carry-on bag. Excess luggage will be subject to charge per piece. For flights to/from the USA, most airlines permit two pieces of checked luggage each weighing up to about 50lbs. However, airline policies vary and may change at any time.

CHILDREN: All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Minimum age for children on escorted or guided coach tours is six. Minimum age for European river cruises is 12. There is no minimum age on independent packages. Discounts for children sharing a room as third apply to children under 12.

OPTIONAL SIGHTSEEING TOURS: You will enjoy many of Europe’s famous highlights as included features of your tour - at no extra cost. However, there is an exciting array of additional excursions which are made available to help turn an already outstanding experience into the trip of a lifetime. These are entirely optional and are offered to you at competitive prices. They are all bookable through your Tour Director at the commencement of your tour as many of them are planned to coincide with the best highlights available at the time of your visit. All prices are quoted in local currencies or Euros which have been rounded for convenience. Payment can be made in cash, travellers cheques or by the following credit cards: Visa, Mastercard or American Express. All credit card transactions will be charged in Euros. For payments in other currencies your Tour Director will advise the relevant exchange rates at the commencement of your tour.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS: On dates including, but not limited to religious holidays and national celebrations, some monuments and sites may be closed. On these occasions, touring itineraries may be amended to reflect these closures
